Euro Media Group relies on SubtitleNEXT to support expanding Digital Services

SubtitleNEXT selected by EMG Belgium as software of choice for reliable and flexible workflows used in major productions

For immediate release – 23 March 2022, Brussels, Belgium We are happy to announce that Euro Media Group (EMG), Europe’s leading global provider of broadcast facilities and media services, has expanded its digital services division with the purchase of new SubtitleNEXT licenses to support major productions. The SubtitleNEXT platform is used for captioning offline content in real time and is embraced by a growing number of broadcast and film industry professionals across the globe.

EMG’s position as an industry leader for over 30 years, offers world-renowned expertise that masters the entire value chain from image creation to distribution. EMG is a valued partner for major international events, including sport brands (Tour de France, UEFA Football World Cup, Formula One, Wimbledon), live events (Eurovision), and entertainment programmes (The Voice, Masterchef, the X-Factor) with its main operating companies now adopting the same Group name.

SubtitleNEXT was adopted by EMG-owned Videohouse back in 2018 already, and continues to provide unmatched efficiency, reliability, and versatility to a world-leading talented team of professionals, designed for application throughout the entire production process from creative concept to delivery. The recent SubtitleNEXT upgrade further optimises EMG’s subtitling capabilities ahead of major broadcast and sporting productions, which include television series for leading networks, to the largest sports tournaments in the world.

Videohouse now known as EMG Belgium provides national and international services for television and media productions and facilitates content creation with the latest technology and enthusiastic service-oriented professionals. It has served big-brand accounts that include the likes of HBO, Endemol, Canal PLUS, Council of Europe, European Commission, Fremantle Media, Discovery, Disney, Facebook, AWS, BT Sport, ESPN, BBC, Sky Sports, ITV Studios, Endemol Shine Group, and others. As a specialist in management and processing solutions, EMG Belgium records, digitises, encodes, archives, and distributes video content at lightning speed and with flawless accuracy.

SubtitleNEXT was chosen by EMG Belgium for its powerful toolset, innovation, and flexible licensing models, which have proven vital for remote productions during the pandemic period. The SubtitleNEXT system gives EMG Belgium the ability to support a diverse range of production requirements and enhances subtitling creativity. Current notable projects using SubtitleNEXT at EMG include commercials, films, and television series such as Dexter: New Blood, local productions Déjà Vu, Stamnummer 1, Mauve, including HBO shows And Just Like That and Euphoria.

Subtitler and Translator at EMG Belgium, Elisabeth Barber commented, “SubtitleNEXT is the only subtitling brand we now use and has become the exclusive subtitling software platform here, so we use it for all our subtitling projects. We are still very happy with SubtitleNEXT as the platform provides us with superb stability. We can also take advantage of a whole range of brand-new features that have been added since the last upgrade. If ever there is a slight technical issue, we know we can always count on the prompt response from the SubtitleNEXT support team whenever we need them.”

Elisabeth outlined some of the SubtitleNEXT’s key features that she regularly relies on, “Two features we use a lot here are the ‘compare’ and ‘fix titles’ options. However, what SubtitleNEXT really does well which makes it stand out, is the vast amount of keyboard shortcuts it lets you assign to timing operations. One of them provides the option to add or deduct one frame to or from the in and out cue of a subtitle. This operation can be done while the video is still playing, so this is very handy indeed!

The other key feature in SubtitleNEXT we really like is the capability to simultaneously change the ‘out cue’ of a subtitle, and the ‘in cue’ of the next subtitle, and vice versa.

The ‘auto out cue’ short key, which automatically sets the ‘out cue’ at the desired reading speed specified in the settings, is one we use all the time. As far as we know, these features are not available in any other subtitling program.”

With two new colleagues joining the team recently, Elisabeth added, “It was very easy to get them started with SubtitleNEXT, since the program is so intuitive. So, in all, we are very happy with SubtitleNEXT. It is a visually appealing environment to work in and it is perfectly catered to a subtitler’s needs.”

Ann Van Bogaert, Head of EMG’s Subtitling and Translation Department confirmed, “As we support the needs of our growing department at EMG Belgium and meet the rise in demand for content, we rely on a system that delivers powerful, flexible, and future-ready subtitling workflows that can fit into our strategy. SubtitleNEXT’s development team always steps up to the plate, demonstrating passion for innovation with exciting new features and capabilities that will support our continued growth. We have a solid working relationship with PBT EU, and they are always willing to work with us in a collaborative way to deliver solutions that align with the needs of our business.”

PBT EU’s CEO Ivanka Vassileva stated, “We are extremely proud that EMG Belgium has once again upgraded its SubtitleNEXT licenses, as they continue to expand and work on demanding high-profile projects. Renown for seeking out the best in technology and expertise and owing to its continued success, EMG is able to invest in innovative systems, and therefore maintains its status as a forerunner in a competitive market. As the demand for captivating viewing experiences rises, EMG thrives on keeping up with the pace of technology and we respond by continuing to offer flexibility to meet their creative needs. We admire their principles that match ours: – an ethos built on reliability, strong customer relationships and a tremendous passion for innovation and world class delivery.”

CTO of PBT EU Kamen Ferdinandov concluded, “The industry as a whole needs to innovate with new technological solutions, and EMG already leads the way. As the landscape develops, I’m looking forward to us being ahead of the curve and supporting EMG Belgium with ongoing advancements and also continuing to adopt our ‘customer-focused’ approach to everything we do.”

SubtitleNEXT attracts attention at APTRAD and The Languages & the Media Conference

Studios take a keen interest in SubtitleNEXT’s Live Subtitling capabilities

For immediate release – 13 October 2021, Sofia, Bulgaria The SubtitleNEXT team is proud to celebrate a successful outcome after attendance as official Exhibitor Partner and premium sponsor of APTRAD and The Languages & the Media 2021 Virtual conferences last month. With media accessibility being more urgent than ever for broadcasters and AVT professionals, the timing of shows like APTRAD and Languages and The Media, have been of paramount importance.

The SubtitleNEXT team introduced the latest developments of both the SubtitleNEXT and NEXT-TT software platforms, which attracted the attention of researchers and experienced professionals in the audiovisual accessibility, transaction, and localisation world at the Languages and the Media (L&M) show in Berlin, which is Europe’s leading localisation event.

New features in SubtitleNEXT and NEXT-TT were showcased and include integration with newsroom editing systems such as AVID, iNews, and Octopus, real-time live subtitling with one or two stages respeaking capability, dictation corrections plus more, all compatible with You Tube, Zoom, Decklink, Newfor and others. The powerful NEXT-TT platform optimises collaborative work and QC, by incorporating many of the remarkable advancements available in SubtitleNEXT.

Highlights and key trends of the L&M show in Berlin covered topics such as machine translation, automatic speech to text and text to speech technologies and how these innovations affect how content owners, media studios, language service providers and freelance subtitlers achieve results as they work on key projects.

CEO of PBT EU Ivanka Vassileva reflected on what she encountered at L&M, “We discovered that there appear to be quite a few Language Service Providers that enter the media localisation market and try to use their computer assisted translation tools for audiovisual translation work. Consequently, this disrupts the traditional subtitling processes, and in turn pressurises the media studios to implement these technologies within their current workflows. Ultimately, this situation then leads to the need for workflow management solutions that are capable of incorporating automatic transcription and translation processing together with the use of other tools. This helps with text correction, but it means that the work of the subtitler in these organisations becomes increasingly more focused on only correcting computer-generated subtitles, instead of actually generating subtitles themselves from a template or from scratch. However, the good news is that all these are functions and capabilities that the media studios require are already available in NEXT -TT and SubtitleNEXT, and it was great that both of our solutions received acknowledgement and interest by them at the show, crediting the software as extremely useful and affordable for companies to invest in, irrespective of their size.”

Live subtitles for live events and meetings” was another hot topic aired at the L&M show. “Even though many countries already have vast experience in this area, it is still fairly new ground to tread for many new markets presenting challenges that have to be carefully considered such as selecting the best workflows and technologies that include specifics such as language and human resources. Therefore, there is a need for simple, easy to use and highly adaptive solutions for both large broadcasters and small live captioning freelance teams. SubtitleNEXT is clearly a market leader in the live subtitling field as the system offers various workflows and user-friendly tools. Another advantage that SubtitleNEXT offers companies that want live subtitling, is that it provides advanced offline subtitle preparation capabilities in a single application.” Ivanka noted.

As a premium sponsor of APTRAD, the SubtitleNEXT team had a busy turnout to their daily demonstrations of the latest innovations in its subtitling technology, including a new automatic Licensing Manager available in SubtitleNEXT version 5.10. The new License Manager provides organisations with an administrator account to allocate the acquired licenses for the users of choice, under self-management.

Overall, the team’s participation in the technology roundtable proved to be an informative and productive discussion between professionals from different backgrounds. Creator of the SubtitleNEXT software platform, Profuz Digital’s CTO Kamen Ferdinandov was a speaker at the technology roundtable sessions at APTRAD, with his contributions well-respected and highly valued by the subtitling community. He highlighted the important role that audiovisual translation tools play in today’s world and explored informative topics across the AV translation and broadcast sectors ranging from subtitling, dubbing, accessibility modalities, subtitling for hearing-impaired people, and audio description. Kamen said, “We were able to share at the roundtable at APTRAD our current achievements and discuss with other industry professionals about the best way to meet users’ needs, including what’s next in the pipeline.”

The SubtitleNEXT team also invited APTRAD attendees to enter a raffle for a chance to win a laptop and a sought-after SubtitleNEXT Lifetime Expert License. A well-known industry professional in Portugal, Mr Paulo Fernando, was the fortunate winner of the SubtitleNEXT raffle and was impressed with the software which he described as very powerful.

In response to audience requests at these recent events, the team at SubtitleNEXT will be holding a series of technology “SubtitleNEXT Friday Workshops” as of mid-October onwards, to demonstrate how to create subtitles from scratch or from source. The first session will take place on 15th October and will be completely free. Click this link to join in: https://join.skype.com/GJn8QL88GBhT

SubtitleNEXT favourably received at Russian Translation Forum

For immediate release – 10 August 2021, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia – We are delighted to report a successful debut of SubtitleNEXT at the “Translation Forum Russia” event with ALBA Multimedia, as major partner of the event. This year for the first time, the forum was held in hybrid form – online and live.

SubtitleNEXT products offer functionalities that cover the full scope of timed text production from creating to airing subtitles for recorded video or online events. The system can also be used for constructive tasks such as project management, billing, and resource management.

The forum is Russia’s leading annual platform in the language industry in Europe and across the ex-USSR republics, which has traditionally always attracted high-profile attendees from the European Commission, UN Information Centre, Belgian Chamber of Translators and Interpreters and the World Intellectual Property Organisation. This year the Translation Forum Russia forum had well over 300 participants on site and many others attending online which included heads of language service providers, in-house translators and freelancers, lecturers and university students, translation software and interpretation equipment providers, representatives of authorities, publishing houses, and so on. Sales and Product Expert at PBT EU Maria Markovska reported her feedback of the event, “Participating in Translation Forum Russia with ALBA Multimedia has been an exciting opportunity for SubtitleNEXT’s exposure in the market. The forum is the perfect space where professionals can exchange the latest information about cutting edge technologies and innovation and share vital knowledge about best practice. A gathering of professionals of this calibre, certainly contributes to the creation of the highest standards of professionalism being formed and maintained in the industries concerned. We found the forum to be invaluable as it encouraged live discussions and debates, and gave us an opportunity to meet new people, and reach out to colleagues. It was great to hear industry leaders and experts speaking about the latest trends in the translation services market. Many of the speeches, presentations, workshops, networking sessions, plenary sessions, panel discussions, and round tables were held in four streams during the three days of the conference.”

ALBA Multimedia’s Chief Sales Officer Elena Aleksandrova, who attended the event noted, “The forum went extremely well, and it was a great success for SubtitleNEXT too. It was very positive to hear representatives from various Russian TV channels commenting that the SubtitleNEXT platform is a beneficial solution for teams working on big projects. Some of the participants were specifically interested in SubtitleNEXT’s creative subtitles which was very encouraging too.”

Traditionally, the presentations at the forum are divided into three streams that cover business, technologies and the art of translation. Elena said, “ SubtitleNEXT was the star of the show and managed to draw equal attention from all three areas. It caught the eye of localisation business representatives, many of which were also interested in the technological side. SubtitleNEXT also appealed to freelance audiovisual translators, working on key projects for Netflix and Amazon. Many Russian university attendees also showed a lot of interest in SubtitleNEXT which was excellent to see.”

Elena added, “We were thrilled that SubtitleNEXT also made an impression on one of the presenters at the show who made a surprise public mention in his official presentation of how useful SubtitleNEXT is for both novice and experienced freelance translators. SubtitleNEXT is an incredibly helpful tool for novices owing to its state-of-the-art and adjustable interface that can be customised to suit user preferences such as work layouts and views. It even comes with integrated help and an interactive guide along with a flexible pricing model.

Elena elaborated further, “Professional subtitlers will find SubtitleNEXT a joy to work with as the toolsets work with all video formats, including local and web video. Time can be manipulated in SubtitleNEXT which makes it possible to open and compare multiple subtitle files, conduct QC automations, allows for collaboration, and has a stunning Smart Text assist function speeding up the process. SubtitleNEXT’s integration with ASR and dictation software engines, batch conversion, various outputs such as YT, CC, SDI, DVB and others are a list of some of the many advantages SubtitleNEXT provides indicating why beginners and pros find this system a compelling solution.”

CEO of PBT EU Ivanka Vassileva concluded, “We are delighted with the outcome of the “Translation Forum Russia” event with ALBA Multimedia’s excellent support. It is rewarding to see how SubtitleNEXT has been so well received there. We appreciate all the work and dedication ALBA has assigned to giving SubtitleNEXT an excellent introduction send off at such a significant event in a very important market. Belgium’s MAX Live Media Access Services relies on SubtitleNEXT’s advanced toolsets to meet real-time accessibility goals

“SubtitleNEXT enables us to meet broadcasters’ demands and high standards by being our one-stop-shop for all of our subtitling needs – the results are always high quality.”

Veronique Denis, Co-founder, Max Live Media Access Services

For immediate release – 28 July 2021, Kontich, Belgium Belgium-based live-subtitling experts MAX Live Media Access Services have invested in SubtitleNEXT to provide real-time subtitling workflows. SubtitleNEXT has already been put to work to support MAX Live Media’s broadcast clients with advanced subtitling services to help meet stringent media accessibility goals, as well as provide interlingual real-time subtitling, timed-text streaming for international events and more.

SubtitleNEXT is a convenient all-in-one solution that can be used for captioning live events and offline content in real time. It can stream content in multiple formats that are suitable for linear broadcasting, including VOD platforms and social media platforms.

Subtitling is finally being recognised as essential, and no longer an optional add-on, as previously perceived. This positive move has revealed how valuable subtitles are to programme makers and filmmakers, as they not only promote growth, but increase profits by reaching out to vast global audiences in different languages.

There is a growing understanding of accessibility, and the definition is broad – from motor disabilities, sensory, to cognitive, the key element is to ensure that content is made accessible to everybody and that no one is excluded. New regulations requiring audio-visual content to be made accessible to everyone, including hearing-impaired people, have resulted in a seismic shift in the broadcast industry’s attitude towards subtitles. Broadcasters all around the world are now subjected to these new rules to ensure scheduled programmes have sufficient subtitling to meet guidelines, thus increasing demand for subtitling and captioning solutions. Accessibility has been made affordable with reliable software systems on the market like SubtitleNEXT, therefore subtitling should no longer be regarded as a regulatory burden for broadcasters.

Co-founder of MAX Live Media Access Services Veronique Denis states, “I have been creating accessible audiovisual content for the hearing and visually impaired since 2015, and over the past few years, people have started consuming audiovisual content anywhere and anytime. This is challenging for broadcasters who want to meet accessibility standards for content that needs subtitling across various platforms. SubtitleNEXT enables us to meet these broadcasters’ demands and high standards by being our one-stop-shop for all of our subtitling needs: – whether they are live, semi-live or pre-recorded, the results are always of high quality. With SubtitleNEXT, we can provide all of these services and more. We are able to meet our clients’ demands for accessibility of all of their content on any platform and we can open up content for other speaking audiences too.

Veronique adds, “We also use SubtitleNEXT to accommodate our clients’ need for accessibility for the deaf and hard of hearing with intralingual real-time subtitling of live streams, webinars and other broadcasts and to also provide real-time subtitles for conferences and corporate meetings. Increasingly more companies realise that accessibility is not simply making sure that work space is accessible for people with physical disabilities, but it is also about making sure that those with sensory and ‘invisible’ disabilities are able to participate at work just like any other employee. This fits perfectly with one of our company’s long-term goals: making for a more inclusive society in which accessibility is a given and not something one should ask for. It should be there from the get-go. We try to raise awareness by providing potential clients with statistics, for example that one out of ten Belgians are hearing-impaired. If a company has 50 employees, then 5 could benefit from having real-time subtitling.”

MAX Live Media relies on SubtitleNEXT for other projects such as interlingual subtitling for multilingual events, whether offline or via livestream. Veronique expands further, “As Belgium is a multi-lingual country, it is important for events to be accessible to a diverse audience. Without subtitling, organisers used to resort to interpreters, but then had to have a wide array of audiovisual means to get the message to those who need it. With real-time subtitling we provide textual assistance for those who need it and if the event is streamed online as well, the viewers at home can watch the content with subtitles too. Moreover, the subtitles generated with SubtitleNEXT are timed like regular subtitles, which is something that other text streaming applications lack. Therefore, thanks to SubtitleNEXT, we can provide the client with a subtitle file after the event so that they can use it for the publication of their content.”

A smaller portion of MAX Live Media’s activities includes writing audio description for the blind and visually impaired, using SubtitleNEXT to identify where they can describe what’s shown on screen and then use the reading speed calculations for the text to gauge if the voice-over is timed well. Veronique notes, “Thanks to the many “export-abilities” of SubtitleNEXT, we then can export this audio description script into any format the client may want to use for their script or studio recordings.”

CEO of PBT EU Ivanka Vassileva remarks, “We are delighted that MAX Live Media Access Services have embraced SubtitleNEXT to meet their clients’ broadcasting needs. We pride ourselves in providing software that provides our clients with flexibility so they can enjoy a flawless in-house network all under one roof. The SubtitleNEXT subtitling platform provides subtitling professionals with many toolsets that can significantly enhance their work, one example being the “live dictation” function which can be used in live subtitling workflows in order to caption news and events in real time which is quite an exciting new development. Many more exciting features have been released and more are on the horizon for 2021. We are thrilled to have MAX Live Media join the growing SubtitleNEXT family of professional users.”

Defined as an exceptionally dependable subtitling software platform, it is no surprise as to why SubtitleNEXT is referred to by many professionals today as the “subtitler’s lifesaver.” Delivering to high industry standards, the system has an array of immediate resourceful tools and features.

SubtitleNEXT already has a proven track record of success. Throughout the entire pandemic, it has continued to support customers, owing to its flexibility and remote capabilities. Some of the many companies that have already adopted SubtitleNEXT include Polsat, Kino Polska, OiV in Croatia, Listen Up in Bulgaria, AMC in Hungary, Hayat, HD Media, OBN, University of Warsaw, University of Rome Tor Vergata, Doli Media Studio, The European School of Translation, Videohouse, UCM and Hellenic American College of Greece.
